REVIEW: THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE CLAY MASK

by - 9:00 AM

I'm learning more and more that great skin requires commitment, and that what you put in is what you get out. One of my go to skincare products is The Body Shop's Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask.

There are so many benefits to tea tree oil, but you should never put it directly on your skin, i.e. combine it with a "carrier" oil, like coconut oil or olive oil. This is exactly why I love The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil range (I may do a full review on their scrub, their foaming cleanser, oil and body wash - can you tell I'm obsessed?) - they've got perfectly formulated products for your best skin yet. Back to this Skin Clearing Clay Mask.

This face mask is the second most expensive mask I've bought (it retails for around ZAR 170), and it was so worth it.

Here's what The Body Shop promises:

Our Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask helps cleanse, cool and refresh blemished skin without over drying. Enriched with Community Trade tea tree oil, the mask helps clear impurities whilst absorbing excess sebum, leaving skin feeling soothed and looking clearer.
I love that on top of the tea tree oil which helps heal blemishes, it contains menthol meaning your skin feels cooled down if there's any inflammation from a bad break out.

Like most clay masks, the mask promises to clean your pores and tighten up your skin... it definitely delivers.

MY MASKING ROUTINE

Because clay masks are pretty drying, I only use them every second week. On a bad week, I'll use it twice. My skin is pretty dry, except for my chin and T Zone where I constantly break out - you'd think I'd learn I need to consume less dairy. I started multimasking about a year ago, and it's made such a difference, so I'll only apply the clay mask to my T Zone and use a brightening/illuminating mask on my cheeks.

THE VERDICT

I love that the mask smells amazing and feels cooling. It feels tightening when it first goes on, but as it dries it feels SO good - soothing and my skin feels cleansed.

The mask is definitely great to use during active breakouts. Over time (give it 6 weeks), you'll start to notice blemishes starting to fade. If you have inflammation, it helps too - I always notice less redness a few hours after use.

If you're looking for a great mask to help cleanse, cool and refresh your skin, I would definitely recommend this mask.

What's your go-to face mask?
