For the past few months, I have been working at the church I spent my high school years in, as a creative apprentice when I'm not dabbling in Online Ministry. This is also my final year of full-time studying before I graduate. I spend 5 - 10 hours a week at church carrying out my tasks. It's been an incredible experience so far and I've learned so much. It's rare that I spend a full day in the office, as I usually go back and forth between class and church.

I really have been stumped on what to post, and I figured why not go back to basics? So I thought I would give you a little glimpse into my life at the moment and what my current internship is like.

05h30 - My alarm goes off. I grab my phone, read whichever YouVersion plan I'm currently reading, before getting out of bed for 5 minutes of journaling and reading.

05h45 - I check the social media accounts I manage to make sure there aren't any messages I need to respond to.

06h00 - By 6, I'm out of bed. I wash my face first thing in the morning, so that I feel fresh. Most days, I don't wear makeup, and my hair seems to live in a bun. I finish freshening up, and get dressed.

06h20 - I make & pack any snacks I want and my lunch for the day. I need to be out of the house by 06h45, because traffic is insane and I love to grab a coffee before my day starts and reflect.

06h45 - I'm on the road. On the way to work, I listen to my morning playlist. I love listening to podcasts, but limit it to one morning a week. Since we're in the information age, I when I don't need to consume information, I don't.

07h30 - I arrive at church. Port Elizabeth morning traffic is ridiculous during the school term - a 15 minute drive turns into a 40 minute one... provided there aren't any accidents. I grab a mocha from our on-campus Seattle Coffee Company. I read through my goals for the week, or day. Tuesday mornings are our team chapel days, where I run lyrics. As soon as I'm done with my coffee, I head through to the lounge to set up and chat to the rest of the team.

07h50 - By this time, everything is set up. I enjoy a cappuccino and we chat until about 8h30.

08h30 - At 08h30, chapel starts. We have worship for 30 minutes, a devotional for 10 minutes and then a teaching from our lead pastor until 09h30.

09h30 - I have class at 10h30, so I make my plans for the rest of the day and prep my desk so I can work after class.

09h50 - I leave church for university, and almost always start listening to a podcast for the 15 minute drive.

10h10 - I arrive on campus, and meet up with friends.

10h25 to 13h00 - I have class.

13h20 - By 13h20 I'm usually back at church. I grab a snack and then head to my desk. My days are never the same, though there are some tasks I complete regularly. Here are a few examples:

  • Plan social media for our Jeffreys Bay, Uitenhage and online campuses, children's ministry, & youth ministry and create any graphics I may need
  • Check up on online ministry
  • Design sermon graphics for youth ministry
  • Create any other visuals needed
  • Check social media insights and post any posts
  • Catch up on emails
By 15h30, I turn off my laptop and gather my things so I can go home. I need to make sure I leave before 15h40 to miss the traffic.

16h00 - I get home just after 16h00 and usually take a nap.

16h45 - I'm genuinely a queen at 45 minute naps. I check my university deadlines and get started on any work I need to hand in.

18h30 - I'm usually done by 18h00. I've been trying to cut down on my screen time, so I pick up a book and read a few chapters while eating dinner. Some evenings I'll work on my blog, or do some research for work or in the software development industry. Some evenings I'll engage on Twitter and Instagram a bit.

19h15 - I shower, do my skincare routine and brush my teeth and then change into something more comfortable.

20h00 - I turn to Showmax, and watch an episode of The Good Wife, the show I'm currently bingeing.

21h00 - I head to bed and read a few chapters of whichever nonfiction book I'm currently reading. Before I call it a night, I'll check my diary and create a to-do list for the next day. I also check social media one more time before I go to bed.

22h00 - I feed my hamster, change his water, turn the lights off and go to sleep.

Despite my recurrent tasks, none of my days are the same. I've been trying to make an effort to do things outside of work and university. Some days I grab lunch or coffee with a friend, others I'll attend an event in the evening. They say your twenties are your best years, so I'm making an effort to live my best life.
