4 ways to improve your blog

by - 8:59 AM

Hello lovelies!

The past few months have been spent re-assessing my blog, taking a break from it and deciding where I want to go with it in the future. I have 3 major steps that I'll be sharing with you if you'd also like to refresh your blog & get out of a rut!

revisit your mission statement

If you're working on growing your audience, and hoping to monetize your site down the road, you should have a mission statement. A mission statement can help give your readers an idea of why you're writing and the point behind your posts. It also allows you, as a blogger, to know why you're writing and will ensure you put out strong and helpful content.

If you don't have a mission statement, here are a few questions to help you get started:

Who is your audience? What are they interested in? What don't they enjoy?

Why have you chosen them? What makes you different from the other bloggers out there?

Once you have some ideas, it's time to put it all together as a mission statement 2 - 3 sentences long. Think of it like this: if someone could only read these sentences about your blog and what they would get out of reading it, what would you tell them?

If you do have a mission statement, this is the perfect time to revisit it and determine whether your blog direction has changed and if it needs to be changed.

Create a monetization strategy

If you're wanting to make money from your blog, relying on one blogging network to monetize your blog, you need to add a few more sources of income. You can monetize your blog, whether you have 50 or 5000 followers.  Don't be scared to pitch to companies yourself. You are an influencer - acknowledge your worth and make it happen.

Update your blog template/branding

This is currently on my to-do list, and I'm so ready to rebrand and re-create 15bex02. Think about what colours and fonts would represent your focus and, as mentioned above, mission statement. Colours make a huge impact on your readers - consider how you want your blog to make people feel - vibrant and happy? calm and collected? Search for mood boards, or create your own!
You can find templates on Etsy, and through Google searches.

Have a plan!

Having a plan can make all the difference. I regularly felt lost blogging - I had no idea where I wanted to go with my blog. In the past month, I took some time to write out a plan for my blog. It was a basic layout of what I wanted to post about, posts I'd like to repurpose and a basic social media plan. It allows you to get something to refer back to when you need a reminder of where you are and where you're going!
