How to Create a Morning Routine

by - 3:25 PM

Hey lovelies!

Routines are important. They help create structure and get ready for your day, or allow your brain to get into "unwind" mode. Creating good, healthy habits is also a great way to help yourself achieve goals and reduce stress from your everyday life. Routines increase your efficiency, and can save you from um-ing and ah-ing when you don't know what's next.

I'm most definitely a creature of habit: I wake up, run through the same routine every morning, go about my daily tasks, and retreat back to my room in the evenings to unwind and relax. Here are some of my tips for a good morning routine!

Keep your sleep schedule consistent

Going to bed, and waking up, at the same times everyday helps your body form a pattern. If you find yourself struggling to wake up go to bed earlier. If that doesn't help and you're still waking up sluggishly and you feel drained, talk to a doctor. Don't rely on caffeine to wake you up.

Eat breakfast

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I agree: it helps provide you with the energy you need to start your day and most healthy breakfast foods provide important nutrients that are needed by the body. If you struggle to eat foods early in the morning, have a cup of green or rooibos tea and take breakfast to go! (Let me know if you want to see a breakfast post!) Use the time you're eating breakfast to prepare yourself for the day, and to check your social media.

Take a shower

Let's be honest, most of us don't like showering in the morning because it means extra time is needed to sort out our wet hair. I totally recommend having a shower (or a bath) in the morning though! It's super refreshing, and a great way to relax your muscles and focus on getting rid of tension before a busy day.

Use lists

If you're like me and find yourself always leaving things behind when you leave the house, create a check list of what you need the night before because you're (usually) less stressed about the next day. In the morning, you can go through the list and make sure you've got everything you need. One less thing for your brain to worry about.
